The Exploding Plastic Inevitable Tired Jew Tour

Hi Everyone,

I'm heading back on the road to launch 1.) my new insomnia
anthology, "AWAKE! A Reader for the Sleepless" and 2.) the
paperback edition of my JewPunk tome, "The Heebie-Jeebies
at CBGB's: A Secret History of Jewish Punk."

As usual, I'm a bit late in notifying you about the first event, but if
you can make it, I'd love to see you. Otherwise, be sure to make
note of what's ahead so that you can begin to plan your calendars

Oh yes -- as you'll notice, many of these readings involve music; but
not just music, music as aural support for the readings. Others also
include audio-visual presentations, actors and performance artists
(among them, Amanda Palmer of The Dresden Dolls). It's a kind of
Exploding Plastic Inevitable for a new generation. Show up and you
just might witness the birth of the next Velvet Underground. Imagine
being able to tell your grandchildren that!

Oh yeah, all events are free -- especially for invited guests like you.
And one even includes free beer. PBR to be exact.

1. Tuesday, Feb 26 -- Mercantile Library (NYC) -- Mark Mirsky, Claire
Moed and yours truly.

2. Monday, March 17 -- McNally Robinson bookstore (NYC) -- Jonathan
Ames, Molly Kottemann and Ed Champion with yours truly as emcee.

3. Wednesday, March 26 -- A Cappella Books (Atlanta, GA) -- Area

City, the fevered brainchild of former Jody Grind frontman Bill Taft.
Hubcap City features guitar, banjo, concertina and saw!

4. Thursday, April 3 - The Middle East (Cambridge, MA) -- Steve
Almond, Beth Woodcome, Franz Wright, Steve Brykman, Myles
Gordon, Amanda Palmer (of The Dresden Dolls) and yours truly
backed up by ambient sounds duo "Kosher Ham" (who will be
doubling as either "Ambien Sounds" or "Kosher Hambient Sounds"
for the night). This reading/music-happening in one of Boston's
coolest clubs is sponsored by Pabst Blue Ribbon.

5. Sunday, April 13 -- KGB Bar (NYC) -- Priscilla Becker, Catie Lazarus
and Bud Parr with yours truly as emcee. Also, amazing guitar work by
"the thinking man's ax man," Gary Lucas.

Sleepless in Deutschland

Hi Everyone,

A quick one today, but a goody.

First, check out my piece on Jewish Hardcore in Zeek (originally appeared in the print version, now available online).

Second, get your wallets ready for the release of "The Heebie-Jeebies at CBGB's..." in paperback this April. The book will also appear in translation in Germany this October -- as will I (appear in Germany, that is, though not necessarily in translation).

Third, keep your calendars open for readings/concerts centered around my new insomnia anthology, "AWAKE: A Reader for the Sleepless."

These take place:

1.) Tuesday, Feb. 26 @ The Mercantile Library, NYC.

2.) Thursday, April 3 @ The Middle East, Cambridge, MA -- (Will also include avant-garde music similar to that at Atwood's Tavern [see my previous blog], lots of local readers, and [are you sitting down?] free beer from Pabst!)

3.) Sunday, April 13 @ The KGB, NYC.

More details on all of these -- as well as additional readings currently in the works -- soon.

Auf wiedersehen!
